The Wondrous Mangrove Forest

Collaboration with New York Times best-selling author Rachel Ignotofsky and her book, The Wondrous Workings of Planet Earth.

Illustrations from the Ecosystem of the (Florida) Mangrove Swamp page was taken apart and prepared so that it could be animated to journey through the wondrous Florida mangrove forest in this educational piece.

MAP YOUR MEAL

Produced 3 animation for this EU-funded project which aims to engage young people, youth workers, trainers, community educators, and the general public to use their consumer power to take action towards a fair and sustainable food system.

The first was an animation competition win, titled ‘Question Your Shrimp’ which presented the importance of choosing locally sourced food (not just shrimp) and encourages people to find out where their food comes from. Some of the hidden social, environmental and health impacts were exposed, that many would be unaware of.

A further animation would describe the visions and missions of Map Your Meal, while the other presented ideas of what could be done to improve the global food system.

According to numerous reports, nearly all (over 90%) raw shrimp available in the US are farmed in Asian countries, including Thailand, Vietnam, India and Indonesia.

Think ‘Mangrove’ Forests

A shortlisted finalist entry into the Think Forests Video Competition by the CIFOR (Center for International Forestry Research).
Why are mangroves so important? How are they under threat? And what can we do to help protect them? This short animation sets out to answer those questions, using photographs submitted to the first ever Mangrove Action Day Photography Contest, encouraging participation and helping to spread awareness of the importance of these coastal forests.

Around 210 million people live in low elevation areas within 10 km of mangroves and many of these directly benefit from mangrove-associated fisheries.

Securing Natural Capital in the GMS

The Greater Mekong Subregion is one of the most dynamic regions in the world, witnessing rapid economic growth over the past two decades. Much of this has been fueled by the unsustainable use of its natural resources. While this has led to increased prosperity, it has also created immense pressure on the natural environment, including its rich and unique biodiversity.

The animation describes the work of the Core Environment Program in each of the 6 countries, helping to secure natural capital in the Greater Mekong Subregion.

Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar and two provinces in China make up the GMS.

The Garden of the Beasts at Hampton Court Palace

The Garden of The Beasts takes children on a journey through the history and stories of Hampton Court Palace through the eyes and experiences of the Kings Beasts that have guarded the Palace for centuries. These heraldic creatures engage the children in a game of adventure and discovery that entices them into a fantastical world of the imagination where all is possible and nothing is quite as it seems.

The animation was part of a presentation for the Magic Garden Competition at Hampton Court Palace, after being shortlisted as part of a team to design it.

The Helix is Happening

The Helix Project will transform under used land between Falkirk and Grangemouth into a thriving urban greenspace covering some 300 hectares incorporating woodland, allotments, miles of new pathways, sports facilities, event spaces and two 35m tall horses head sculptures.

Room60 were commissioned to produce a short animation that would giving an idea of the experience of a day at the Helix, conveying the completed site as an exciting place to be, and the international tourist destination it's hoped it will become.

The Helix is Scotland's newest Visitor Attraction, opened in 2013

Invest in Green Infrastructure

Animation produced to introduce Green Infrastructure (GI); an approach to land use that emphasises multifunctional and connected spaces, underpinned by the recognition that many benefits are generated by natural ecosystems.

It is aimed at inspiring local decision-makers and communities to make the most of their land, while helping wildlife to flourish, reducing flood risk, providing green open space for all, and delivering a wide range of economic, health and community benefits.
